Yellowcard has been around since 1997, although the pop-punk group didn't really hit it big until it signed with Capitol Records for 2003's "Ocean Avenue." Since then, it has been a huge draw on Warped Tour, put out a live album exclusively on iTunes, and differentiated itself from the crowd by sticking with violinist (!) Sean Mackin in the lineup and making strings an important part of its sound. The group's current tour, backing 2007 album "Paper Walls," finds Yellowcard playing acoustic shows in venues as large as the Majestic Theatre, where the band lands Thursday for an all-ages performance. We caught up with lead singer Ryan Key as he prepared for rehearsal for this new breed of show at home in Los Angeles.
QUESTION: Is the band roster different than usual for this tour?
ANSWER: Since the tour's acoustic, it's just going to be Sean Mackin, our violinist; guitarist Ryan Mendez and myself. And then we've hired a cello player -- or cellist I guess you would call it. So we're just going over the stuff because we're playing it a little differently than we usually do. And we're also playing quite a few old songs off our first record, "One for the Kids," that we haven't played in probably three or four years. So they need some rehearsing.
Q: What prompted you to do a lo-fi tour this time out?
A: [Drummer] Longineu Parsons had some stuff going on, and we didn't want to not tour. And we're not going to tour with another drummer, so we wanted to give him the time he needed and we figured it was a good opportunity to do this, something we've always wanted to do. It's kind of nice. It gives it more of the string section feeling, which is a lot like it is on the actual record, so it's good. And our fans have always wanted to see us in this sort of setting, so we just thought, why not throw it together and do it acoustic like this. We're pretty excited about it.
Q: You've done a lot now with MySpace and iTunes. Why?
A: MySpace is something that while we were making our second record for Capitol, it sort of exploded on the music scene. We were so focused on making that record that we kind of missed the MySpace boat when it sailed. So we spent a lot of time getting ready for "Paper Walls" working on MySpace and answering messages. We did a series of Webisodes leading up to ("Paper Walls") letting the fans into the studio with us and that was really fun for both us and them.
We've tried to catch up the best we can. iTunes is what it is, and I want to say at least people are buying music again somewhat. Doing the record, it was a cool thing; it's a new concept of releasing these digital-only albums. It's cool to be a part of it. I'm not exactly sure that's what the new medium of record sales is going to be, but it's cool to stay on the forefront of whatever that is going to be.
Q: Do you have an iPod?
A: I do have an iPod. I have LimeWire on my computer but only because there was a song that I could not find on iTunes.
Q: Yeah, right. Nice try, wise guy.
A: I've downloaded one song illegally probably in the last eight years! When Napster came out, we all did it for like five seconds, but then when we realized what it was doing, we as musicians said, "We should probably not do this." But a couple of months ago, I was looking for this certain song, and I couldn't find it. I'll admit my guilt in doing that. It was actually this Tracy Chapman song that a girlfriend of mine and I were into in high school; it was like this epic breakup-I'll-wait-for-you song called "The Promise." And I hadn't heard it, and we were talking about it, so I was like, "Oh I'm going to download that because I haven't listened to it since I was 16." But I couldn't find it, so I went on and illegally swapped it. Sorry, Tracy Chapman, like you care.

Interview with Jeremy (Guitar, Vox)
How did you guys meet each other and when did you decide to form a band?
Well, four of the guys (minus Andy and I) had been jamming and made a Myspace, which Andrew and I found, saw they wanted a guitar player and a bassist, tried out, and by their third or fourth show were members of the band. Things just kinda took off from there.
Did you play in other bands before?
We all played in little local bands around Dayton, but nothing serious.
Ok, I hope this question does not bother you: The name The Devil Wears Prada originated from the book. But there is also this movie. Why exactly did you choose this name? And don’t you get frustrated by people asking you about the movie/book?
Yes. We do. Hah, no, we got the name from the book, but put our own meaning to it. There are more important things in the world than the brands you wear, etc. Then after we were signed they decided to make a movie. We were anything but excited..
Did you know, that there was going to be a situation comedy series by the name The Devil Wears Prada, which hasn’t been green-lighted by the TV studios.
I've heard rumors, lets cross our fingers that doesn't happen. Maybe we can make cameos ;)
Did you ever think of changing your name?
We thought of it, but decided against it.
There is a really huge MySpace hype around THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. How much are you involved in all those Internet communities?
I would definitely agree there's quite a bit of hype behind us on myspace, and that's awesome. Its definitely a good thing to be so involved with all of our fans online, we try to stay really in touch with all of them as much as we can.
You have almost 150,000 MySpace friends and a couple of thousand plays a day. How fast did all this happen?
Pretty fast, actually. A lot of the reason we got signed in the first place is because of our following on myspace and purevolume. Its awesome that kids are so into it.
Are you afraid it might end as fast as it happened?
Not too afraid I guess, no point in thinking negatively. We try to keep it real and keep producing good music, hopefully kids will stay into it.
Rise Records is continuously signing a lot of the hype bands. Is Rise Records the perfect choice for you?
Rise was definitely a good home for us, and they're definitely making a name for themselves as a label. Its exciting to be a part of that.
"Plagues" is going to be co-released by Ferret Music. What do you think about the label and its bands?
We love Ferret, they've been amazing to us and their bands are amazing as well. We've made good friends with Every Time I Die, and Maylene is an awesome band.
"Plagues" has a much more melodic touch than "Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord", why did you choose this approach?
Actually, I think there are parts that are more melodic, but there's a lot of the cd that's heavier than the last one. I think it's written a lot better than Dear Love.
How many of you guys are still in high school? How difficult has it been to balance life as a band and going to school?
The guys that were in school just graduated, so none of us are in school anymore. We're definitely excited being on tour fulltime now.
Is the album title "Plagues" has its seeds in the bible?
Yes, the Bible talks of God bringing the plagues on Egypt to show them of His glory, and we hope people can get something from this album, no matter what they believe.
Christian hardcore / metalcore is currently really huge in the States. UNDEROATH, NORMA JEAN, THE CHARIOT or AUGUST BURNS RED are just a few examples. Why do you think are there so many successful Christian bands at the moment?
I think they're just good bands with strong beliefs. I'm definitely into good bands spreading a message.
How important are your religious believes for your music?
Our beliefs are very important, we're all Christians and I think that's reflected in our lyrics and the passion that's in our music.
Is it easier right now, as a Christian band, to come around in the states and to get a rehearsal room?
Its definitely not any eaiser to be a Christian band, especially a heavier one. We just got off of Sounds Of The Underground tour and faced a lot of harsh words and gestures on that tour for saying what we believe.
Being a Christian band that uses music to express faith, do you worry that fans will be turned off? Especially in Europe and Germany people hold a lot of scepticism towards Christian Lyrics in the Hardcore scene.
I'm sure there are some people who will be turned off by the Christian thing, but we feel this is something God wants us to do, and hope that people can still get into the music even if they don't believe what we do.
Which are your favourite bands out there right now?
Personally, I love Norma Jean, Underoath, A Day To Remember, ETID, my friends in At The Throne Of Judgement. I'm also real into a lot of ambient stuff right now...
What can you tell us about Dayton, Ohio, its music scene and the best places to hang out?
Dayton is not a bad place to be from, there's a lot worse places to live, but there's definitely a lot going on elsewhere. Cincinnati kids definitely give us a lot of love, and Chicago kids, etc. The midwest is a pretty cool place to grow up though. You really don't have to worry about a lot of stuff like innercity problems, or a lot of other issues. It definitely feels like home. There's some cool stores down in the Oregon District, and over by the University of Dayton, but I don't really hang out in Dayton much. My girlfriend is from South Bend, Indiana so I hang out there a lot when I'm home. Cool places to hang out are pretty much wherever your friends are.
What are your plans for the future? Are you going to tour Germany?
We definitely have plans to hit Europe in the next year, we'd love to do Australia, UK, etc, and go out with some rad bands in the states. We go out with our friends Chiodos this fall and that should be amazing.
Thank you very much for your time. The final comment is yours.
Thanks for having me. Pick up Plagues, in stores tomorrow ;) God bless, stay rad....

The Devil Wears Prada
Interview with The Band on Oct 25, 2007 by
Just before the Ohio natives in The Devil Wears Prada were about to release their second album, Plagues, I had the chance to have a conversation with them while they stopped in Chicago for the Sounds of the Underground tour. The topics included the new album, touring, being Christian and the most important of them all, Chipotle.
By: Wade Rice
First can you guys start off by introducing yourselves and what you do in the band?
James Baney: I play keys and I'm James.
Mike Hranica: I do vocals and I'm Mike.
Daniel Williams: Daniel, I play drums.
Chris Rubey: Chris, guitar.
Andy Trick: Andy, bass.
You guys mentioned it on stage; you have a new album coming out. Can you give us an idea of what we can expect in comparison to the last album? Is it heavier, is it more melodic?
JB: Yeah, it's heavier and it's lighter. We kind of went both ways. With this album we knew we were putting an album out for people, where the last album we were just kind of like writing songs for like...local shows. You know what I mean?
Right, yeah.
JB: So this time we've obviously put more effort into it, and wrote better songs, better music.
So, a longer production?
JB: Yeah.
Who did you guys end up working with producer wise and all that?
CR: Same dude actually.
The same producer?
CR: No, I'm saying us in general.
JB: We kind of produce our own stuff.
CR: But it sounds different because we got a whole new sound; it sounds a lot better.
You guys have had some success on PureVolume, Myspace and stuff like that. Do you ever get scared of that sometimes? Like does it ever kind of settle into "What is happening"?
MH: As for being scared, I kind of get scared, but we've just gotten big because of Myspace, and that doesn't really give us a good representation. We don't really get that good of a respectful representation from Myspace.
So you're worried about your getting out the right representation more?
MH: Yeah.
CR: We don't want to be known as a Myspace band.
Well, I don't think that there are too many that want to be.
CR: Yeah, that is why we're out touring.
You want kids to buy your CD and come to shows. You guys mentioned today on stage about being Christian.
JB: Oh, there's a train. (a train goes by)
JB: So that is the whole thing about the Christian thing. [Laughs]
I just wanted to ask what your response has been on this tour from the kids. Has anyone come up to you and told you that they found the Lord because of you guys?
DW: I've gotten Myspace messages and emails and stuff where people are like, "Yeah, I found Jesus because of you guys," or whatever.
JB: Not lately, but I can remember a long time ago, well not a long time ago. [Laughs] I don't know, I've gotten a few lately, but not as much as in the past months. I just think that I used to read a lot more of the Myspace messages. (another train goes by)
DW: I used to read a lot more of the messages but we just don't have time, we are on the road. So we might still get a lot, I just might not notice as much.
CR: Actually, the other day, some kid showed us his arm and there was like some pentagram tattoo that he had that was older and he had like a tattoo of our CD, like the back of it. He was like, "You helped me find God." It was funny because of the pentagram.
Kind of contradictive. How was Sounds of the Underground been? You guys are early on the bill so it seems like it might be a little harder to get kids involved, but you didn't have a problem with that today at all.
CR: Actually, it kind of rotates every day. Sometimes we'll play as late as six. As far as being accepted, we were really worried that it was going to suck. [Laughs] We get a few middle fingers when we talk about...
Is that what happened today, when you said that's not respectful?
MH: Yeah.
So that is pretty common on this tour?
MH: Yeah it happens, but who cares.
You just laugh it off, right?
JB: I'm pretty sure every band on this tour gets someone that disrespects them. There is no one here that likes every single band playing.
So, the infamous movie, do you guys hate it? The Devil Wears Prada?
CR: I hate the fact that it is a movie.
DW: I hate the fact that everyone in the world asks us about it. [Laughs]
JB: Actually the book, we've had members read the book, and then they came out with the movie.
Is that how you guys got the idea for the name, the book?
CR: Before we knew that the book was going to be popular, it was kind of like, "Oh I've never heard of this before." (another train goes by)
JB: I always say, As I Lay Dying is a book too. Everyone knows that, it just never got popular. It's a sweet name. Unfortunately, we chose the book that got popular.
I wanted to mention where you guys are from, Dayton, OH. Hawthorne Heights is from there.
DW: Dead Poetic.
Dead Poetic. A lot of bands have sort of laid out the foundation for you guys. Have bands like that been motivation for you guys? Have they been there for you guys to get through things?
DW: I love Dead Poetic.
JB: I used to listen to them so much. They were a big inspiration. Also, our area is great for shows and getting your name out there.
CR: We like Hawthorne Heights, and this is not sarcastic.
I think everything your saying is 100% serious.
CR: No for real, we rock out to Hawthorne. [Laughs]
Have you guys ever played shows with them?
CR: No.
Do they even know about you guys?
JB: Yeah actually, we ran into them in Boston. We were playing a show and they were playing a show. We just happened to run into them. We were joking about how much Dayton sucks, and they just turned around and they were like "Oh, Yeah." They actually knew more about us than we thought they were going to know about us. It was cool, since we thought they weren't going to know who we were at all, but no they were really cool dudes and stuff like that. They actually put us on the guest list for that night and we went. So, definitely a lot of respect for Dayton area bands.
You guys are a Christian and you don't really play the stereotypical Christian music. I was wondering if you have ever gotten backlash for being Christian and playing death metal type stuff? Were there bands that made that ok for you guys to do?
CR: Yeah, like Underoath and Still Remains. I don't think that we started the band with like, "We're going to be a Christian band" in mind. Then when we got Mike as a vocalist we made a decision to be Christian. I think we might have written a song with a different vocalist and we went back and changed the lyrics.
JB: As far as being Christian and being in this genre of music, there have been bands that have done it before, but it really doesn't matter. As long as you want to get a message out, you do whatever music you like and you add that message to it. So, you could be a Christian band and you could play any kind of music, it shouldn't really matter.
Alright, well that is it for the Christian stuff. What is probably the most surprising thing about you guys that people wouldn't know?
JB: Uh the fact that they just graduated (pointing at Mike and Chris).
Graduated...?
JB: High school, see, see?
Which one?
JB: Mike and Chris.
CR: Literally, we were sitting in high school, like regular high school.
How was that, balancing it all out?
CR: We weren't touring, we were just playing on weekends.
JB: Friday they would be in class, we would leave and play Bamboozle and then come back and they would be in school on Monday.
DW: People thought we were touring because we were playing crazy far states, like in Virginia and wherever. People would be like, "Why don't you come to California?" We're like "Dude we can't drive there in a day and get back."
So is this your first full tour?
All: Pretty much.
JB: This is our second full time tour, as a full time band.
CR: We toured last summer, but we booked it ourselves.
JB: We weren't even signed, well we were signed but we didn't have a CD out yet.
CR: Long tours too, like spring break and winter break.
DW: There were 20 kids at each show and nobody knew who we were. Not every show, there were some good shows, but a lot of the shows were small.
This was last summer?
DW: Yeah, like two or three days after they got out of school.
CR: People are like, "Oh they are in High School. They probably take like online courses or something." It was literally like sit in class on Thursday and I would have to get vacation forms filled out or I would have to pretend I was sick so that we could leave a day early to make it to where the shows were.
You guys came out with your second full length rather fast. Was that just because the first full length was just old material rerecorded?
JB: Tracing back to them being in school, we couldn't tour. So we had nothing better to do but write. So they would come over and we would have practice every day.
CR: As far as writing speed, it really wasn't that fast. When our last CD came out, those songs are from when we first started the band. So I think we actually started writing for this one before the first one was even out. Like right after we finished recording it.
DW: Yeah the crazy thing is that our first record, we never really toured in support of that record. We did tour, but not in response to the record. So we never really toured to promote that record. Basically all the records that we sold were through Myspace and advertising. A lot of bands will just come out with a record and tour, but we didn't have that chance. It sucks because I know that the record could have gotten a lot bigger than it was, but we are happy with what happened.
CR: Last time our record came out they only shipped like a certain amount to stores and for this record we are shipping out like ten times more. (another train goes by) This one will be way easier to find.
Well the next question is sort of in ruins now. You guys said that you haven't toured much but do you guys consider yourself more of a touring band or a studio band? Or is it to early to ask since you guys are new to being constantly on the road?
CR: If you ask us that in like a year, we will say that we are a touring band, because we would have been touring.
MH: Definitely not a studio band, we're a live band.
So you guys aren't a studio band?
MH: Well, we never really went under a professional studio.
CR: As far as like a big fancy like studio. The guy who recorded it is a professional, he is very good.
JB: The first album was just written for shows in our basement and stuff like that. The second one, we were in our practice place not doing anything as far as school goes. So I think what Mike is trying to say is that we've never gone into a studio with no material, and created something in the studio. We've never done something like that; hopefully, for the next record, we will do something like that. As of now, it's not in our options.
You guys are rather fresh to the touring life. Are there any bands that you would like to play with that you haven't had the chance to do so with?
CR: We have a dream tour.
There you go, your own dream world tour.
JB: Well I think everyone has their own dream tour.
CR: There is like the dream tour that will never happen, but then there is the dream tour with all of our friends.
JB: That would be Gwen Stacy, A Day to Remember and At the Throne of Judgment.
CR: But there are all bands that we would like to tour with. Actually, I've pretty much toured with all of those bands. We have a lot of stuff going on in the future though. [Laughs]
JB: If you want to name tours, I mean, we are on Sounds of the Underground. Taste of Chaos would be a good tour for us. Obviously Warped Tour, which we're going to be doing next year. We were looking forward to that; that is just a good tour for us.
CR: Big tours are fun, but uh...
JB: Bro tours are better. [Laughs]
Anything else that you guys want to say or plug?
DW: At the Throne of Judgement's new CD, which should be coming out soon.
JB: We want a Chipotle sponsorship.
All: Yeah.
I'll be looking for those in Dayton, we have those back home in Virginia.
DW: All day.
I have it so much back home though.
DW: Doesn't matter.
That's the thing to do.
DW: Chipotle for life.
JB: We actually almost named a song on the new album "Sponsor Us Chipotle"
But would you guys be able to get away with that.
JB: Dude, we're called The Devil Wears Prada. [Laughs] We also have a song "Swords, Dragons and Diet Coke".
DW: We should have titled it "Sponsor Us Chipotle, Please," That way it wouldn't have sounded so demanding.
Sounds like this is already in the works. You guys have already thought about the possible sponsorship of Chipotle.
All: Yeah.
CR: When we were writing the songs for the new album and we had to name them like 1,2,3,4 and so on, we had to assign names to them. We were thinking, maybe if we named it "Sponsor Us Chipotle," maybe they would do it.
Thanks to the guys for being really nice guys and waiting around after they played to talk to me. Thanks to Judy over at Warm Fuzzy, as always, for setting things up. A special thanks to Chris for fixing some problems at the show and helping me out.

Interview — The Devil Wears Prada

Skratch Magazine
Love heavy rock music, but can’t find any religious rock bands? Well quite looking, because The Devil Wears Prada is just what you’ve been looking for. Their new album, PLAGUES, is a screaming album with sincere lyrics that’ll bring you a little closer to God.
SKRATCH: There's a book and a movie with the same name as your band, but I doubt the same concept. What is the meaning of your name? MIKE: The meaning of our name reflects anti-materialism and the fact that possessions are not what mean most in the world. We see many in the world today lost in this dilemma.
SKRATCH: I see that you express Christian views in your lyrics. Have you ever been frowned upon for using metal and rock music with said lyrics? MIKE: Yeah, people have flipped us off many times because we like to talk about God and share what we believe. In only makes us stronger though.
SKRATCH: Does your album PLAGUES send the image to fans that you had hoped? MIKE: So far, yeah. I think everyone is pretty excited on the new record, and that's something every artist really wants.
SKRATCH: Which song of yours means most to you? MIKE: I put my all in every song's lyrics, so I don't really have a particular.
SKRATCH: If you weren't a musician, what do you think you'd be doing? MIKE: Going to college and working on my clothing line, Shipshape.
SKRATCH: What is your favorite thing about playing a show? MIKE: Seeing kids get into it and enjoy us.
SKRATCH: Is there any particular band that you'd like to tour with? MIKE: A Day to Remember, At the Throne of Judgment, Once Nothing, Gwen Stacy, August Burns Red, Inhale Exhale, and anyone big haha. I just want to tour with friends and bros.
SKRATCH: What's a song you'd love to remake? MIKE: Haha. I've never really put much thought into that.
SKRATCH: What do you do outside of the band, for fun? MIKE: Hang out with my lovely girlfriend, hang out with family and my puppies, hang out with friends, play guitar, run Shipshape Clothing, eat Chipotle and ride my bike.
SKRATCH: What's the strangest thing that has ever happened to you on stage? MIKE: There was a crazy old man who came up on stage with us a few months ago. We thought it was joke, but he was completely serious, although rather intoxicated.
SKRATCH: The Beatles or The Rolling Stones? MIKE: The Beatles.
SKRATCH: Wayne's World, or Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? MIKE: Wayne's World.
SKRATCH: Italian or Mexican food? MIKE: Mexican.

The Sonic Plagues of The Devil Wears Prada
Updated: 10/06/07
The Devil Wears Prada spent their summer vacation on Sounds Of The Underground, touring with the likes of Amon Amarth and the mighty Gwar! Their latest CD Plagues has been unleashed via Rise Records to positive acclaim and their fan base has been increasing accordingly. We recently spoke with vocalist Mike Hranica about the new CD, their Sounds Of The Underground adventure, his clothing line, the movie/book their moniker references, and other topics of interest...
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in The Devil Wears Prada, and tell me how long you’ve been with the band. My name is Mike Hranica, I do vocals and write lyrics, and I’ve been with the band since probably August of 2005.
Although there is a book and a movie called The Devil Wears Prada, what does the band name mean to you? When I joined the band, the name was already picked out, and we already gave it our own meaning as anti-materialism, and the fact that possessions aren’t important as concepts of love and grace. That’s what the most important things are, and a lot of people get caught up in materials and possessions. That’s what we all thought of and that’s what we gave it. And then we ended up reading the book after, and realized that’s not what the book gave it at all. But that’s what we have behind it.
What did you think of the book when you read it? I thought it sucked! I read a lot of books, and I thought it was pop culture trash honestly.
Did you ever get around to seeing the movie? If so, what were your thoughts on that? I did. It was pretty much the same. I felt there were people that dressed well, but other than that, it was pop culture trash.
What made you decide to call the new CD Plagues? Is there any story behind the title at all? Basically all there is to it is that it’s obviously a biblical reference in Revelations in that plagues straighten out humanity – and things of that nature. We chose that because it was very visually appealing as well. Obviously that’s not as important as the meaning we put in behind it, but it was basically for a lot of biblical reference and to tie that into the record name – that’s what we were trying to go for.
Where did you get the ideas for some of your lyrics this time around? Pretty much the same as the last record. It’s based a lot on what I see in the world – problems with the world that I see. People that I know and people that I think kind of let go of what they believed in, and compromised what they believed in. Those personal relationship types of lyrics worked into some songs and all had something to do with God – and everything has the strong foundation of having to do with God.
How did Craig of Chiodos become involved with the recording of your CD? I have no idea, honestly. I think we played a total of five shows with those dudes, and he’s like the nicest guys. It wasn’t me – it was someone else who through out the idea of him doing vocals – for coming down to Indiana where we recorded and doing a song with us. It was really nonchalantly thrown out there and somehow it actually got worked into the album budget. He came down and sang for a short segment on a song, and it worked out really well. It was a real casual idea at first, but it pretty much fell together real well and it just happened.
Do you think you guys might perform that song together on the upcoming tour? We’ve talked about it. I don’t know if we have anything set in stone just yet, because we haven’t consulted him about it. We already decided the only way we’re going to play that song on the tour is if he comes out and does it. We don’t want to work it into our set list and then he not want to do it, because then that’s putting too much pressure on him – and it’s up to him. Honestly, I don’t think we’ve really decided. We’ve had the last couple of weeks off. We’re all just trying to relax and spend some time apart because we argue a lot and stuff. I don’t know what the general consensus is on it now. I think last time we talked about it, it was looking like we were not going to do it. But we’ll see what happens.
What exactly are Goats doing On A Boat? All our song names are complete jokes with no meaning on it. Goats On A Boat is a rip off of Snakes On A Plane. That’s all there is to it.
Of course the big news for you guys this summer was the Sounds Of The Underground tour. How did you guys wind up on such a huge tour? I have no idea. Management got us on it and we were down to do it. It was a crowd that we were no used to playing to, so it was a good idea as far as promotion and trying to get our name out there to new fans and new dudes – so that’s why we decided to do it. Bur as far as getting on it, I know that they wanted to have us on it because we did have a new record coming out soon. One thing lead to another, and it was mostly management – and we ended up doing Sounds for most of the summer.
Did you ever feel nervous about playing in front of a lot of people at the Sounds show? We were nervous a lot. We had a couple of night where we had a pretty tough crowd and people didn’t really like is because we’re not straight-like thrash or metal. We’re a fresh young band, and on top of all that, we talk about God and our relationship with God. And a lot of thick headed metal dudes that go out to that tour don’t really want to hear about it. So we were pretty nervous for some crowds, because a lot of people flipped us off and all that jazz. But no regrets. I think it was a good tour to do. I think I’d even want to do it again next year, because it did have some really huge crowds, and we had the pleasure of touring with some rad bands.
Did you get to meet the guys in Gwar, and what were they like? Some people from the tour knew who was who in Gwar without their costumes on. The only dude I knew was their bassist, and he was like chillin’ every day. He was a really nice guy. It was fun eating with him at lunch or whenever. I heard some bad things about some of their members, but their bassist was really nice – I can say that much.
At this point in your career, would you still consider yourselves a Christian band? Definitely. As far as calling ourselves straight Christians can kind of be argued – because all of us don’t 100 percent agree with what the church is doing and all the religion propaganda or whatever. But each one of us have a very strong relationship with God. And I don’t think this band will ever go on to play a show where we don’t talk about God or have a record that doesn’t deal with God. I’d say we’re a “Christian” band, eternally.
Is touring and being on the road everything you thought it would be? There’s a lot of good times you’ll have touring. I get homesick a lot, because I’m a young dude, and I miss my girlfriend and my family and sleeping in my own bed. But there’s definitely some awesome times you’ll have on tour that you’ll never get to have any other place. Touring is good. Touring is fun.
Who in your band do you think is on Myspace way too much? (Laughs) Dan is the one who kind of got us Myspace popular, because he worked a computer job and he basically just sat on the computer all day and promoted while he was bored. I wouldn’t say that he’s on it too much. I spend a lot of time on it. I’m on it right now. I run a clothing line that is completely based off of Myspace and I sell shirts off of my page. I not going to talk trash about anyone in the band for spending time on Myspace, because we all do it. We’ll all admit to it, I guess.
Tell me a little bit about your clothing line, and how you got it started. Last summer we toured and we didn’t make any profits individually. All of our food and stuff was paid for by ourselves and our own individual part times jobs that we had. And I walked away out of the summer super low on money, and I was really far in debt to my dad. I wanted something to do with my time, so I ended up starting a little something called Shipshape Clothing, trying to pay my dad off, and see where it would take me. And now it’s really successful. Right now I’m sitting here working on it with orders, and all that jazz. It’s been really well lately. I did it to get myself out of debt and just kind of curious to see where it would take me. And now, I frickin’ love it. I would love to be doing Shipshape for a long time.
Do you take the clothing on tour with you and sell it there? The first couple times I did, but then it got difficult. So now it’s all just shipped from home. My girlfriend ships it out, or I ship it out when I’m at home – like right now. I used to that, but it got pretty hard – so it’s just all off the Internet.
Do you any messages for fans here in the LA/OC area? I’m gonna have to say you rule and thanks for the support. Come out to the shows and have fun.

1. The Devil Wears Prada This band is soo amazing live. They really do know how to put on a rock show. I've seen these guys perform 3 times, and each time they just seem to amaze me even more.Last time I saw them was Sept 23rd opening night of the "im a mathlete not an athlete tour" and heres some videos I recorded, its HTML Rulez D00d, Goats On A Boat . My favorite song by them is "You Can't Spell Crap Without "C" Featuring guest vocals from Chiodos frontman Craig Owens. The breakdowns are just soo intense and Jeremy's backup vocals send such a beautiful message. So why is this my top favorite band? They're great rolemodels for young people, as in, they dont do drugs and I think thats soo great! And did I say how funny there are? Watch this clip and tell me there not funny lol I've Met all of the guys except James (Piano).

2. Chiodos Chiodos has to be one of the coolest Michigan rock bands out there right now. Ever since "Alls Well That Ends Well" I've been hooked right on them. I've seen this band 5 times. The last time I saw them was opening day for the "I'm A Mathlete Not An Athlete Tour" Sept 23 07' G.R, M.I. Here's a clip of "Bulls Make Money, Bears Make Money, and Pigs get Slaughtered" live from the Intersection that I videotaped. I've also met them all at Warped Tour this year. Really nice guys :) My favorite song from "Bone Palace Ballet" has to be A Letter From Janelle" and "The Undertakers Thirst For Revenge".

3. Yellowcard Honestly I really could just talk about this band all day. Ryan Key's lyrics are soo amazing, the metaphors he uses and stories he tells always amaze me. My all time favorite Yellowcard song is "City Of Devils" off of "Lights and Sounds" because it's a song lyrically I can relate to. I've seen Yellowcard only two times, which was both in 2006. Hopefully one day they will return to good ol Grand Rapids, Michigan :D And hopefully one day I'll get to meet Ryan Key. That would really be a dream come true. =] Here's a video my cuzin taped this was the last time I saw them "Down On My Head"
